THE STORY BEHIND GHOST DIVISION

From shared passion to a frontline live experience

Ghost Division was founded in 2009 as a fresh start for a former death‑metal outfit that wanted to create something unique. At a time when tribute bands were far less common, the group chose Sabaton out of genuine passion, long before the band became a major force in the metal world. What began as a tight circle of friends quickly grew into a dedicated act that reached the finals of the Dutch Clash of the Coverbands in 2014, storming stages across the Netherlands and Belgium.

In the early days of the band, Ghost Division contacted Sabaton’s bassist Pär Sundström for input on a new name. His involvement led to the creation of the name Ghost Division, a name born straight from Sabaton’s camp and a defining part of the band’s identity from day one. The connection never faded, the band remains in touch with Sabaton and continues to receive their support.

After a brief hiatus, a reunion show in 2017 reignited the spark. From that moment on, Ghost Division evolved into a professional, disciplined tribute act with a lineup capable of delivering Sabaton’s music with conviction, precision and heart. The band built a strong reputation throughout Europe, performing in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and beyond, including a milestone appearance at the official Alcatraz pre‑party in 2024 and shows as far as Budapest.

Ghost Division brings more than 25 years of Sabaton’s catalogue to life with tight musicianship, battlefield‑themed staging and their own signature humor. Expect smoke, sparkulars, fire, unexpected twists and a setlist that blends fan favorites with songs that resonate deeply with the band itself. Every show is performed with respect for the original, shaped into the kind of performance the band themselves would love to see.

Chris Agterdenbos – Vocals

Chris joined Ghost Division in 2026, after years of singing for fun and discovering his voice later in life. His natural vocal tone and delivery closely match Sabaton’s Joakim, making him a perfect fit for the band’s sound and energy.

He and Joey have been close friends for years, the kind who travel to Graspop together, share the same sense of humor, and don’t take themselves too seriously. On stage, Chris brings a mix of power, enthusiasm and self‑aware charm, giving Ghost Division a frontman who can deliver the songs with authenticity while keeping the atmosphere light and engaging.

Bart Graafmans – Guitars

Bart is Ghost Division’s detail‑driven guitarist, known for his sharp musical ear and precise playing. As a graduated musician and music teacher, he brings both technical knowledge and discipline to the band.

He approaches every song with a perfectionist mindset, studying the original parts closely and recreating them with accuracy and respect for the source material. Bart’s focus on nuance and authenticity helps shape the band’s sound, ensuring each performance stays true to the spirit of Sabaton while maintaining Ghost Division’s own identity.

Joey Wouters – Guitars

Joey is the driving force behind Ghost Division and the last remaining founding member. A self‑taught guitarist with a hands‑on mindset, he built his skills from the ground up. From learning the instrument to programming the entire live show.

Within the band, Joey is known for his precision, reliability and technical insight. He shapes the backbone of Ghost Division both musically and behind the scenes, making sure every performance runs exactly the way it should. His combination of discipline, creativity and problem‑solving keeps the Ghost Division machine moving forward.

Ed van ’t Westeind – Bass

Ed originally auditioned as a vocalist, but quickly proved to be the perfect fit on bass. He’s one of the quiet forces within Ghost Division — steady, reliable and focused — but once he’s on stage, he’s the one to keep an eye on.

Always ready with a joke and armed with an impressive knowledge of history, Ed brings both personality and depth to the band. His versatility makes him a true all‑rounder, contributing far more than just bass lines. Whether it’s music, logistics or atmosphere, Ed is the kind of member every band wishes they had: calm offstage, lively onstage, and always fully committed.

Mike Verhof – Drums

Mike is Ghost Division’s technical powerhouse behind the drums. Always searching for the best way to capture Hannes’ signature style while keeping his own character intact, he approaches every part with precision and intent. His setup is tuned and refined to perfection; every cymbal, every pedal, every detail exactly where it needs to be.

A true gearhead, Mike spends countless hours studying Sabaton’s drum arrangements, analyzing the smallest nuances and translating them into a live performance that feels authentic and powerful. On stage he’s the engine of the band: tight, disciplined and fully locked in, driving Ghost Division forward with the energy the music demands.
